In the latest issue of RockRevolt Magazine, we included our first movie review for Detention of the Dead. With the movie coming out shortly (on demand on June 18th, and in select theaters on June 28th), we had to dig further and deeper. Per a post on the Detention of the Dead’s Facebook page, “Open PUS OOZING SORES and a LUST for fresh meat? YES!!!” With promises such as these, how could we NOT follow up with the film’s director, Alex Craig Mann? The film delivered sufficient gore filled morsels of horror to induce horror fanatic wet dreams; however, we wanted to know MORE about what was going on behind the camera and get to know who could deliver such succulent teenage zombie pleasure.
And a pleasure it was to speak to the affable Alex Craig Mann!

There are some who say that James Michael has the musical Midas touch. It seems that just about everything that he touches as of late turns into gold. He’s penned hit songs for Kelly Clarkson, Halestorm, Meatloaf, Deana Carter and many more. He’s also a skilled multi-tasker as his production duties resume includes such artists as Papa Roach and James Durbin. Oh yeah, he also double dips with those duties in his band SIXX:A.M..

A Sound of Thunder seemingly came out of nowhere in 2012 with their album Out of the Darkness: an album that was highly praised by critics and fans alike. It was a musical kaleidoscope containing shades of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Warlock. To tide fans over while working on their follow-up album, the band released an EP entitled Queen of Hell. That just intensified the anticipation for that follow-up album. Well, that wait is almost over. The band is prepared to unleash the next chapter in the story of A Sound of Thunder.

Per their Facebook page bio “Some roots never die, no matter how they are cut.”

There has never been a statement that rings so true. This band, Stardog Champion, features members from Breaking Benjamin, Lifer and The Drama Club. Comprised of Aaron Fink, Mark James, Josh Karis, and Nick Coyle, Stardog Champion are no strangers to this fickle music business. They’ve been here. They live it. They’ve been in the thick of it. Now, they have regrouped and made a new band, by piecing together their cumulative years of talent to make Stardog Champion. Because of their perseverance, their drive and passion, regardless of their past, they are going to take it to the next level, all whilst boasting an independent status. Oh – and did I mention they rock?! They have therefore been nominated this week’s RockRevolt Indie Band of the Week.

Singers come a dime a dozen, or at least that’s how the saying goes, but every now and then one comes along with a voice that truly stands out. That definitely holds true for Cinderella front man Tom Keifer. He stood out in the 80s music scene by his gritty and growling type of vocals. He helped Cinderella climb to the top of musical ladder of success with platinum albums, sold-out tours, and plenty of memorable hits. They were a true success story in the soon to be over-saturated 80s metal landscape.

Here at RockRevolt Magazine, we can get very choosy about who we want to nominate as an Indie Band of The Week. We were at a loss. Who should take this coveted position? It was business as usual today, until The Sammus Theory popped up on our radars, and it was like the sky had opened and answered our question!

If you say you’re a lover of great rock and roll music and you’re not familiar with the work of John Corabi, then I say shame on you. Although most people associate him with being “the guy who tried to replace Vince in the Crue,” there are many more layers of musical integrity to this guy. He is finally able to scratch releasing an unplugged album off of his musical bucket list, as his aptly titled Unplugged CD was recently released. Well, before I get into that and my interview with John, let me give you the cliff notes version on his work so far.

The music scene in L.A. has always been a hot spot for new talent. It seems like so many bands are linked with that notorious city as they chased after their dream of superstardom. It’s always been a very competitive market throughout the years and times really haven’t changed much. With all the competition, it may feel like a dog-eat-dog world out there and your band’s wearing Milk bone underwear. Well, Before The Mourning is not intimidated by that competition out there as they set their sights on taking their game to the next level.

Bill Oberst Jr. is a multifaceted thespian with a unique physique and innate talent to take on roles that make our souls cringe. He starred in an interactive web-film called Take that Lollipop, for which he won a Daytime Emmy in 2012. (Click that link – it’s pretty cool). His resume of films, shorts, and projects is extensive. Visiting his IMDB page is like walking into the Library of Congress. It just keeps going and going and going. The man is an acting powerhouse.

I think it’s safe to say that if someone told you that a three year old was playing the piano, you probably envision a runny nosed toddler banging on a Fisher Price piano. If I told you that same kid mastered the acoustic guitar at six years of age, you probably think I’ve lost my mind. Well, that’s just how the musical path started for Australia’s own Orianthi. While other kids were busy playing in mud puddles and playing kick ball, this young lady was starting to lay the ground-work for an impressive journey that she was about to embark on. She is definitely proving that you can’t judge a book by its cover, or its age.

I think most people would not think of a violin as being an instrument that rocks. That preconceived notion is one that is slowly changing in the world of music thanks to such artists as the Dave Matthews Band, Skillet, and Apocalyptica. There is an artist who is taking the electric violin to a whole new level these days and her name is Bridgid Bibbens. If you are not familiar with this young lady and her beast of an instrument called The Viper, then it’s time to educate you on something special that you have been missing out on.

Madrid, Spain is not necessarily known as a hotbed for alternative rock groups, but that isn’t stopping a bunch of dreamers from there. Everlyn has painted a huge bull’s-eye on the United States and they are looking to hit that musical target with their debut album A Ticket to the Moon. Although the band has toured in Europe extensively for years, as well as putting out a self-released EP, success in the U.S. has eluded them.
