INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: THE SIXXIS

The name and band, The Sixxis, was born when the Atlanta ensemble began creating music together as a band on June 6th of 2006. Starting off initially as a college band, The Sixxis has gone through both lineup changes and style experimentation, until reaching what they currently are today. The Sixxis’ music merges progressive rock with the different influences each member has, for example: blues, jazz, funk, gospel - altogether making their sound unique, bringing the listeners original and powerful songs with a distinctive vocal style, amazing guitar riffs and emotional lyrics. Their influences are Led Zeppelin, Rush, Muse, System of Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.

The Sixxis have grown in the underground scene, working hard in their music, and taking the all the right opportunities. In fact, their first album was tracked at Warner Brothers Studios in Nashville, and was produced by a Grammy Award winning producer, Malcolm Springer. He helped the band to hone their sound, as he shared their vision and guided them to the new sound that the band was searching for. Equipped with a sharpened sound and skill, they have been able to put out “Believe”, their album and single. Also, The Sixxis will be the direct support for The Winery Dogs (Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, and Richie Kotzen) on their upcoming European tour in 2013, playing 8 different countries throughout western Europe.

Because of these achievements and growth, this band has been deemed RockRevolt™ Magazine’s Indie Band of the Week. It is only the beginning for this band. The time of The Sixxis are coming.

About Johnny Price (561 Articles)
Johnny P’s picture should truly be in the dictionary next to “music lover” as he seriously personifies the very essence of the word. He lives, sleeps, eats & breathes music. When he’s not at shows conducting interviews, he’s writing out his experiences for all of you in his wonderful, down-home, “don’t need a damn thesaurus to read it” storytelling way. He is our Knight in Metal/Rock Armour, our tireless attendee of every show, and most importantly – a champion and friend to musicians at every level (he treats everyone like a rockstar!). If you ever get the chance to meet him, you’ll know by his big smile and humble southern boy charm that he is about as real and nice as they come.
