LIVE PICS: STONE SOUR

Arvest Bank Theater at the Midland - Kansas City, MO - 01/29/2014

Each year Kansas City’s radio station, 98.9 The Rock, puts on a series of concerts dubbed the “Low Dough Shows” for their very thrifty ticket price of $9.89 (to registered “Rockaholics”). This past Wednesday marked the first of the Low Dough Shows of 2014, and once again Stone Sour returned to the Midland Theater. The show SOLD OUT in less than half a day after tickets went on sale, and the historic Midland Theater in downtown Kansas City was packed from the barricade in front of the stage, all the way to the third “chandelier” level. Stone Sour’s frontman, Corey Taylor, is a master at generating and drawing energy out of any crowd, and this night’s performance did not disappoint in doing just that. Filling in for Jim Root, who had already returned home to begin work on the next Slipknot album, was Christian Martucci, who showed us some great chops of his own. Along with Josh Rand, Johny Chow on bass, and drummer Roy Mayorga, the band performed an energized set, mainly drawing from The House of Gold and Bones double album, but reaching back to the debut album on tracks like “Bother”. There were even a few Alice In Chains covers thrown to keep us guessing!
