PhillipSeymourHoffman.RIPDammit! Philip Seymour Hoffman, one of our favorite actors in the world, was found dead in New York this morning of an apparent drug overdose.

Shit! Hoffman was found by his worried friend, David Bar Katz, at an apartment in the West Village around 11:30 a.m. after he couldn’t reach Philip. He found him. As bad as we all feel - David, you’re in our thoughts, man.

Also in our thoughts are Philip Seymour Hoffman’s family, who released a statement saying:

“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”

We are all crushed by the news and details of Hoffman’s death. But even as people like us are writing this story, RIP Philip Seymour Huffman Facebook pages being created, celebrities and fans are tweeting their thoughts, and people like you are reading it. Why? It’s simple really…because we loved the guy. He inspired us all.

That Philip Seymour Hoffman was an acting genius who put his heart and soul into every character he played is indisputable as well as an understatement. There simply are not enough words to pay a proper verbiage homage to his brilliance. As magnificent as he was in every role, our personal favorites were his performances in Boogie Nights, Red Dragon, Hunger Games and of course…Almost Famous.

His portrayal of Creem Magazine Editor, Lester Bangs, was the epitome of truth which encapsulated the essence of the music industry of that time (1970s) in a way that will make generations actually feel what it was like to be around when rock-n-roll was still rock-n-roll!

Philip Seymour Hoffman, you were, in a word…INCENDIARY.

RockRevolt interns must pass a quiz on this scene before they get their 1st assignment:
